Some of the experimental games designed by our Prof. Stefano Gualeni are part of the the group exhibition Chrysalis: The Butterfly Dream. The exhibition will take place at the Centre for Contemporary Art of Geneva (Switzerland) from January the 24th 2023 all the way to June the 4th.
Chrysalis: The Butterfly Dream pays homage to the world’s never-ending metamorphosis and all its organic (and inorganic) inhabitants. The exhibition explores the concept of mutability from a wide range of different formal, existential, and political angles. Each thing, each image, and each form in this exhibition is in flux—shifting from one state to another, becoming something else, cycling through multiple identities. This group exhibition marks the major project of 2023 at the Centre for Contemporary Art of Geneva. With some sixty artists and over two hundred works, including loans from the Collection de l’Art Brut in Lausanne, the project will also feature a special lineup of performance art, screenings, a special music playlist by Francesco Fusaro and games designed by Prof. Stefano Gualeni (and developed at the IDG with friends and collaborators like Jasper Schellekens, Prof. Riccardo Fassone, Dr. Johnathan Harrington, Dr. Costantino Oliva, Isabelle Kniestedt, Diego Zamprogno, Rebecca Portelli and Dr. Nele Van de Mosselaer).
The exhibited games are Something Something Soup Something (2017), "Here" (2018), and Doors (the game) (2021).
Rounding out the exhibition, a richly illustrated bilingual catalogue (in French and English) by Lenz Press will include an essay by Andrea Bellini and contributions by a number of curators, critics, artists, philosophers (including Prof. Stefano Gualeni), and scholars on themes related to metamorphosis.
