Which came first: the chicken or the egg? This presentation by Dr Stefano Gualeni will settle this issue once and for all: ‘Chicken and Egg’ philosophical play with thought experiments.
By popular request, this talk - given earlier this year at Café Scientifique - will be featured among the public speeches during Malta's 2017 Science and the City!
ABOUT THE TALK: Thought experiments consist of imaginary situations that help us get a firmer grip on how we see the world, establish values, and conduct our lives. Very practically, they allow us to come to terms with the limits and contradictions in the way we think.
Some thought experiments focus on our values and our social behaviors, and the questions they raise accompanied us through the centuries. Others can, instead, be solved and settled as we refine our sensitivity and our thinking tools. Thanks to the philosophy of language, as this talk will demonstrate, we are finally able to unravel the famed 'chicken and egg' dispute.
Come join our discussion, together with Dr Stefano Gualeni from the Institute of Digital Games - University of Malta, to answer and debate this simple yet beguiling question.
